Stay Classy, California
To California, for being the first state to come out of the dark ages and finally allow gay marriage.
There is only one reason to prevent gay marriage. Only one. Because you don’t believe that homosexuals deserve the same rights as straights. It’s that simple. And if that’s the case, you’re a bigot. That’s all.
I’m happy to see the couples lining up to get marriage licenses and planning their big events. The happiness (and heartache) of finding the one person to love should be celebrated by everyone. So… HURRAY!
Hey, wait a minute. California couldn’t be the first to allow gay marriage. We already did that in Massachusetts. Bummer that the Californicators didn’t have the guts to follow suit. The only reason to ban gay marriage is if you secretly, in your heart, believe that false witness is not one of the ten commandments. Then you can believe the rationalizations people give for being against gay marriage. Otherwise, you can’t. Pretty simple, but obviously over the heads of the Californicators.
I think it will be remembered as a embarrassing black spot on California’s history.
Could you unpack that slightly? About false witness? Do you just mean that those against gay marriage are liars? I think a lot are. But I think more are simply conflating the role of state and church.
